Newborn Photos in Perth: When to Book and How Much They Cost
If you're expecting, newborn photos are probably on your list, along with two big questions: when should we book? and how much will it cost? Here are honest answers from my newborn studio in Leeming, Perth.
When is the best age for newborn photos?
The ideal time for newborn photos is when your baby is 7 to 14 days old. In those first two weeks babies are sleepy, settle easily and still curl into the tiny, womb-like poses that make newborn photos so special. After about three weeks they're more alert, less flexible and more easily startled, so those curled-up poses become harder.
That doesn't mean you've missed out if your baby is older. Lifestyle and family-style images still work beautifully, and older babies often give you gorgeous wide-eyed portraits.
When should I book my newborn session?
Book during your pregnancy, ideally in your second trimester. Newborn sessions depend on a very short window, and the best photographers book out well ahead.
Here's how it works with me:
- Reserve your spot using your due date and a $200 deposit, which comes off your package total.
- Let me know when baby arrives. A quick text from the hospital or home is perfect.
- We lock in your date when your baby is between 7 and 14 days old.
Because I book around due dates, it doesn't matter if your baby arrives early or late. We simply pick the best day once they're here.
How much do newborn photos cost in Perth?
Newborn photography prices in Perth vary a lot depending on what's included. When you compare photographers, check:
- how many edited digital images are included, or whether images are sold separately afterwards
- whether outfits, wraps and props are supplied
- how long the session runs
- whether parents and siblings can be included
- the cost of extra images
My prices are clear and include your edited digital images, so there are no surprises after your session.

- A relaxed studio session with up to 3 hours allowed for feeding and settling (most take 1.5 to 2 hours)
- All outfits, wraps, bonnets, headbands, layers and props, cleaned before every session
- Parents and siblings welcome in the photos
- Access to my client wardrobe for mum
- Proofs emailed on the day so you can choose your favourites at home
- Fully retouched, high-resolution digital images, usually delivered in under two weeks
What should I bring?
Just nappies and milk for your baby. I supply everything else. You're welcome to bring something sentimental, like a special blanket or a toy from a grandparent, and I'll include it in your photos.
